Upon popular demand, the “Funniest Man in America”, James Gregory will be touring Wilson and the Boykin Center for the second time this year! The trademark caricature is the essence of James Gregory´s comedy: whimsical reflections on life from the front porch. Gregory tours 45 weeks a year, entertaining sold-out crowds in theaters, colleges, corporate events and comedy clubs from Atlanta to Chicago, to New York. “The most successful comedian America has never heard of,” James Gregory entertains over 10 million people annually. TV’s beloved “Alice” – Golden Globe & Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin – serves up a heaping plateful of great music & fun reminiscences in her autobiographical concert Songs & Confessions of a One-Time Waitress. Lavin began her career with Broadway appearances in the musicals “A Family Affair” and “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever”, and plays such as “Something Different”, “The Riot Act”, and “Cop-Out”. Lavin first gained major notice for her appearance in the musical “It’s a Bird...It’s a Plane...It’s Superman!”. She is sure to please an audience in the Boykin Center in Wilson!

The Official Blues Brothers Revival

The Blues Brothers are what can only be described as a musical, comedic, and cinematic legend. They have become part of our culture, and have spawned countless tribute acts all across the world. The Blues Brothers Revival is the coolest, most authentic Blues Brothers show to ever hit the stage. Officially sanctioned by the John Belushi Estate and Dan Aykroyd, these guys aren’t messin’ around. After several years working from coast to coast in the award winning Las Vegas show “Legends in Concert”, they were approached by filmmaker Paul Jay with an idea, the outcome was A&E’s highly praised docudrama “Lost in Las Vegas”.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Festival
Monday Jan. 19, 2009
Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through music, song, dance and more. The MLK choir will be directed again this year by Alton M. Mitchell, Music Director of Jackson Chapel Baptist Church. Alton, as the director, weaves the passion of Dr. King’s vision into an afternoon performance that will bring professionals and volunteers together, hand in hand. This event is sure to provoke a sense of an unified community as well as entertain.

From the timeless tunes of Tin Pan Alley to the bright lights of Broadway, all the way to the heyday of the Hollywood musical, THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK is a dazzling parade of American popular music from the 30s, 40s and 50s. From the pens of George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Lorenz Hart, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, and many more, THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK tells the story of the first 30 years of America’s “classic” music. Go steppin’ out with a dynamic cast of eight singer/dancers plus a quartet of the finest jazz musicians, as they put on their top hat, white tie and tails underneath the stars of the Wilson skies.

Artie Show Orchestra

The Artie Shaw Orchestra is a band that has the unique formula for pleasing the full spectrum of audiences, that is, the “Begin the Beguine” fans and jazz fans alike. The great Artie Shaw once wrote a book entitled “The Trouble With Cinderella”. It was the autobiography of a complex musical genius. When Dick Johnson got the call from Artie to front his orchestra in 1983, Dick was quick to realize that this was his own Cinderella story. Come out and experience the boundless Artie Shaw Legacy with Dick Johnson!

The Monitors and Milton Bullock – the Golden Platter

The Monitors need no introduction to the Wilson community. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with an unforgettable performance at the Boykin Center. The band organized in 1957 by Bill Myers and Cleveland Flowe are still going strong. The Monitors have been back up band for such celebrity artists as Otis Redding, Millie Jackson, Major Lance, Faye Adams and Joyce Thorne. Roberta Flack was at one time lead singer for the Monitors. They are ready to entertain and “Wow” the community again and this time, along with Milton Bullock. You may have heard Milton Bullock on the radio, you might have seen Milton Bullock in a movie… Now experience Milton Bullock on the Boykin Center Stage! He’s currently making the Edgecombe County area in North Carolina his home, and there is nothing that equals “Only You” sung by the “Golden Platter” live and up-close... it will take your breath away.
