Contributors
Dear Arts Council Contributors and those who WILL BE Contributors,
When you read this article, our Fund Drive will be underway. The year 2007 was good for the Arts Council of Wilson in so many ways, and we hope you were able to take part in some of our events or enjoyed visiting the galleries to see the art work displayed. Please plan to renew your support or become one of our contributors. There were six hundred two contributors on our database at the end of the year and five hundred six of them were Family, Supporter, Donor, Sustainer or Benefactor contributors. That means many of the single entries on the data base represent a larger number of people in their homes or companies who read the Arts Courier. So the number of people who were aware our activities could be more than double the number of contributors recorded.
Numbers are important to me because they show growth and they show support for the efforts of our board and staff members’ ideas, activities and purpose. There are so many possibilities for this organization, and with your contribution, new ideas can be nurtured, and tried and true programs and activities can be maintained.
In January of 2008, we started the year with the music of Tommy Dorsey, opened the Art Center Boykin gallery with artists Eric McRay, Pearless Speller and Dazzala Knight, while featuring two visual artists of Wilson, Dwight Mitchell in the Lowe Gallery and Mark Hargett’s photography in the Boykin Center’s Hammond Gallery. Visual arts workshops for children were filled on January teacher workdays, and auditions for ACT for Youth’s The Jungle Book were packed with young talent waiting for their chance on stage. The month ended with a phenomenal 50th anniversary concert by THE MONITORS on a Friday night and the set for The Playhouse’s production of OLIVER being moved into place immediately following the concert for their February performances.
So now that you know how busy the Arts Council of Wilson is and what kind of programs we provide, please take a moment to complete your pledge card and return it so we can plan our 2008/2009 budget and bring more opportunities to Wilson County. It is one of the best bargains in town, and it educates, enriches and entertains so many people.
Sincerely,
Barry Page
Thank You…
