Wilson Arts and Greenfield Fine Arts will be producing HAIRSPRAY this July for the Annual Wilson Summer Community Musical!

Audition Dates and Times:
Saturday, June 6 at 5:00 PM

Monday June 8 at 7:00 PM

Performances: July 24-26, 2026

Auditions will be held at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, 108 Nash Street NE, Wilson, NC 27893.

You can’t stop the beat of one girl’s inspiring dream to share her big and bold dance moves. Against the background of the civil rights movement, Hairspray chronicles the high drama, high energy and high hair of a local tv dance show in 1962 Baltimore.

Directed by Seth Penwell with musical direction by Seth Greene.

Auditionees should prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theater song and bring sheet music in the correct key.

Music is the only area we will cover. The acting portion of the audition will consist of cold readings from the script and take place at callbacks on Tuesday, June 9.

There will be no dance/movement to the audition.

The participation fee, if cast, is $75 per person or $50 for Wilson Arts members at the family giving level or higher.

ACT! for Youth presents Tarheel Tales – Creative HeARTS Show

Wilson Arts is proud to provide live, literature-inspired theater experiences—presented by our ACT! for Youth students—to local care facilities and individuals with disabilities, ensuring the joy of storytelling is accessible to all.

These performances will feature “relaxed rules”, meaning they are designed to create a more inclusive and comfortable environment for audience members who may benefit from a less restrictive theater experience. These performances are particularly welcoming to individuals with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, or other conditions that may make a traditional theater setting challenging.

This lively play brings to life five classic Appalachian stories through an ensemble cast in a fun, story-theatre style with plenty of audience participation.

All school performances begin at 10 AM and are held at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center (108 Nash St NE) in Historic Downtown Wilson.

Tickets are $5 per seat. The full amount will be due on or before the day of the event.

– at the Wilson Arts Center reception desk during business hours (Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM-5 PM)
