Kyler’s Kitchen: Summer Fruit Tart Workshop

Celebrate the sweetest flavors of the season in this hands-on baking class featuring a beautiful and delicious summer fruit tart. In this class, learn how to create a stunning dessert that looks bakery-worthy but is surprisingly approachable to make at home. Work with fruits such as strawberries, kiwis, blueberries, mandarin oranges, and other seasonal favorites.
Along the way, you’ll learn tips for preparing fruit, creating eye-catching designs, and assembling a dessert that’s perfect for summer gatherings, brunches, holidays, or simply treating yourself.
Each participant will create their own fruit tart to take home and enjoy, and light appetizers will be served during class.

Gel Plate Shenanigans: Monoprinting 101 with Julie Ann Haas

Come and experience the joys of mark-making and color exploration using the gel plate printing method with trusty native guide Julie Ann Haas.
You will create one-of-a-kind prints that can be framed; made into cards, wrapping paper or collage fodder! Absolutely no experience is necessary for this class – just a sense of adventure and a willingness to get your hands a little messy. The primary goal is to have fun!

Figurative Drawing Session

Figurative drawing sessions offer rotating professional nude models led by moderator Mike Radford. The session will include a series of short gesture drawings and several longer poses.

Easels, drawing boards and various drawing mediums will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own materials.

Mosaics with Meri Workshop

Students will sample a variety of cheesecake flavors and toppings to discover just how versatile this classic dessert can be, and then prepare their own cheesecake.
Whether you’re a longtime cheesecake lover or have always been intimidated by making one from scratch, this class will give you the confidence and skills to create bakery-worthy cheesecakes at home.

There’s nothing quite like a warm homemade muffin!
In this hands-on baking class, you’ll learn how one recipe can become multiple bakery-worthy treats.
Start with a hearty oatmeal muffin base and transform it into three crowd-pleasing flavors:
  • Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins
  • Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Muffins
  • Peach Cobbler Oatmeal Muffins
As a bonus, you will also learn how to make a sweet and crunchy oatmeal streusel topping that can elevate muffins, quick breads, and more.
Along the way, learn baking tips, ingredient substitutions, and simple ways to customize recipes with seasonal fruits and favorite mix-ins.

Meditative Drawing Workshop with Maureen O’Neill

The Meditative Drawing Workshop is an immersive experience that combines guided meditation, breath awareness, intuitive mark-making, and slow-seeing.

Designed for all experience levels, this workshop invites participants to slow down, release expectations, and reconnect with the creative process as a source of presence, insight, and inner calm. Through a variety of drawing materials and guided mark-making exercises, participants will discover how drawing can become a meditative, healing, and transformative practice.

All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook or journal.

Instructor Maureen O’Neill is the Director of Exhibitions and Educational Programming for the Barton College Art Galleries and Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Art, Barton College. In addition to her classes at Barton College, Maureen leads workshops in drawing meditation and pastel drawing at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh and Ghost Rance Education and Retreat Center in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

Paper Slashing Collage Workshop with Lori Oxendine

Travel back to the late 15th century, when the practical mending technique used by Swiss soldiers started a fashion trend so unusual and bold that it swept through Europe’s aristocracy like wildfire.
In this workshop, we’ll breathe new life into that centuries-old style, reimagining it through paper collage instead of fabric. You’ll layer richly colored and patterned papers, then use a technique called “slashing” to reveal bursts of hidden color, creating vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces by taking away rather than by adding.
Along the way, you’ll dive into color theory, play with texture, and explore movement in three dimensions to revive this rich Renaissance decadence. The result will be your own richly textured artwork that carries a blend of resilience, artistry, and a touch of flamboyance.
All materials provided. Ages 14+ welcome, but minors must have adult accompaniment.
